6) Omega 3 Fatty Acids

There are 3 vital types of Omega 3 fatty acids: EPA ( eicosapentaenoic acid ) , DHA ( docosahexaenoic acid ) and ALA ( alpha-linolenic-acid ).

Omega 3 fatty acids are important for the treatment of diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. It helps with anti-inflammatory, cell membrane structure and function and hormone production.

These are essential fatty acids that our body does not produce them.  ALA can be found in flaxseed oil and both EPA and DHA are found in fish oil from salmon, tuna.

For maintenance of optimal health, a dosage of 500 mg per day is recommended. For heart disease, obesity and diabetes, 900 mg per day is recommended.

7) Glucosamine

Glucosamine is a precursor to collagen that forms joint cartilage and skin. So, it is important for joint tissues, skin support osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Recommended dosage is 1500mg per day.

You can find more information on Glucosamine for anti-aging from my earlier post.

Green tea is a potent antioxidant. It is 100 times better than Vitamin C and has the highest concentration of polyphenol content. It can burn fat and help with weight lost.

Green tea lowers total cholesterol and protects the liver from damages of toxic substances such as alcohol.

For general health, 2-3 cups of green tea is recommended.

9) Pomegranate

Pomegranate is a fruit whose juice has powerful anti-oxidation property. It prevents plaque build up on the blood vessel, thereby helping with heart disease and lowering of blood pressure. It can also reduce bad cholesterol (LDL).

A pilot study in reported in the International Journal of Impotence Research showed that pomegranate can help improve erections.

Drink 8-16 oz of the fresh pomegranate juice a day is recommended.

10) Vitamin D

Vitamin D is produced in our body when we are exposed to the sun for a minimum of 5-30 mins. It cannot be found in natural food source. Therefore, you can either take in food that is fortified with Vitamin D or just expose to the sun regularly.

It helps the body to absorb and use calcium, which, is important in the maintenance of bone mass. Deficiency in Vitamin D is associated with high blood pressure and heart diseases.  It appears also to have a protective effect against several types of cancer.
