Everyday, we are exposed to thousands of dangerous chemicals and toxins. While it is impossible to eliminate toxins exposure from all sources, there are ways to minimize it.
Here are 5 ways you can avoid and reduce toxins exposure:
1) Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC)
Limit the introduction of VOC in your home by using VOC free cleaning products and household products. Paint your house and parquet flooring and furniture with low VOC paints and wood lacquer.
2) Phthalates and Bisphenol-A (BPA)
Phthalates and BPA are found in plastic containers. Store your food and water in phthalates or BPA free containers. Use glass or ceramics for food storage. Avoid heating and microwave food in plastics containers.
3) Organic foods
Organic produce are grown without pesticides, leaving less chemical residues. However, most organic produce you find is not necessarily pesticides free. They may just be lower in level. While washing fruits and vegetables can reduce chemical residues exposure, it is not effective against all pesticides types. Peeling the skin may help.
4) Processed foods
Limit your intake of processed foods as they contain additives, preservatives and colorings. Processed foods are normally subjected to high temperature during processing, which can produce toxic cancer causing agents.
5) Cooking at high temperature
Avoid cooking meat directly on heated metal surface or open fire and eating charred portions. Cook meat at temperature below 120 degree Celsius or 250 degree Fahrenheit by stewing, braising, steaming or crock pot cooking.
