Do you feel tired and exhausted by the time you got home from work at the end of the day and  there is no more energy left for your family?

What you eat and the nutrients you obtain from the foods have an impact of the amount of energy you have.

Get smart with some of these nutrients, which will provide you the energy that can turbo charge your day:

1) Matcha Green Tea – L-Theanine

Green tea is well-known for it’s powerful antioxidant benefits from EGCG ( Epigallocatechin gallate). But Matcha green tea is a finely milled powder green tea that contains a special amino acid called L-Theanine, which gives green tea a sweet taste.

L-Theanine stimulates the production of alpha-waves in the brain, which produce a relaxed and calm focused energy. As such, it reduces mental stress, improve thinking ability and alleviate mood. Matcha green tea has the highest level of L-Theanine compared to other green tea.

2) Antioxidants

Energy is produced from mitochondria in the cell. Damaging free radicals are constantly produced in the process of energy production in the mitochondria.  Maintaining mitochondria functions at its optimum requires a sufficient amount of antioxidants to quench the free radicals and preserve mitochondria energy.

Powerful antioxidants can be found in EGCG from green tea, pomegranate, resveratrol ( from skin of grapes and red wine), grape seeds and blue berries.

Pomegranate , compared to other fruits, contains the highest level of 3 potent antioxidants; tannins, anthocyanins and ellagic acid, which can neutralizes two times as much free radical as red wine and seven times as much as green tea. But the Matcha green tea has 137 times more EGCG than normal green tea and more antioxidants than pomegranate, blueberries and gojiberries.

3) Electrolytes

It is important to maintain a balance in important electrolytes such as potassium, sodium and magnesium in the body. An imbalance of these electrolytes will lead to drop in energy level. That is why drinking sufficient water is important as water plays a role in maintaining electrolyte balance in the kidney.

4) Carnitine

Carnitine is required for the transport of fatty acid into the mitochondria for the production of energy, thereby increasing the metabolism. Foods that are rich in carnitine are nuts, seeds, legumes, broccoli, garlic, mustard greens, banana, apricot, oatmeal, bran and rye.

5) Choline

Choline activates the production of critical component in the cell membrane. It is a precursor of neurotransmitter, acetylcholine that is important for muscle control, memory, mood and mental activity.

Choline prevents the liver from accumulating fat. Deficiency in choline will lead to liver disease, heart disease and brain disorder. Foods rich in choline are soy lecithin, liver, fish, chicken, cauliflower, spinach, wheat germ and tofu.

Don’t let low energy prevent you from living a healthy and happy life. Try out food rich in these nutrients and you will find yourselves less tired and sleepy, with more energy for your family.
