Benefits of Pomegranate in Skin Care

1) Anti-aging

Pomegranate is rich in ellagic acid, which is  a powerful antioxidant. This powerful antioxidant effect helps to prolong the life of fibroblast, which is the tissue responsible for the synthesis of elastin and collagen, the main protein needed for maintaining skin tone and elasticity. Therefore, it prevents wrinkles formation.

2) Wound healing

Pomegranate seed oil is rich in punicic acid. This key component is an anti-inflammatory agent the help to expedite wound healing and repair of sun damaged skin. The pomegranate seed oil is also rich in linoleic acid acting as a moisturizer.

The Journal of Ethnopharmacology 20 February 2006 issue reported the benefit of aqueous extract of fermented pomegranate juice in helping skin cells in the epidermis (upper layer) to regenerate while pomegranate seed oil help the skin cell in the dermis (deeper layer) to regenerate.

3) Anti-acne

Digestive problems is one of the contributors to skin problems such as acne. Regular intake of pomegranate juice can correct digestive problems and promote healthy blood circulation. This help to send more oxygen to the skin cells making it fresher and smoother.

Pomegranate juice is also rich in Vitamin C. Applying a cotton wool soaked in the juice to the skin helps to regulate oily secretion of sebum from the skin. The wound healing property of pomegranate will also help to heal acne scar.
